Why I’m Changing ‘Balanced Man’ to ‘Lead Beyond the Bench
When I launched Balanced Man, it was a deeply personal project.
It was about reclaiming my own health, restoring my family, and learning how to show up fully — as a husband, a father, a business owner, and a coach.
It resonated with men who were burning out chasing “success,” while quietly losing what mattered most.
That message hasn’t changed.
But over the last year, something has become clear:
This isn’t just about men.
It’s about leaders.
The same struggles I saw in overworked dads and business owners?
I see them now in elite head coaches.
In sales managers.
In directors, GMs, and founders.
Whether you lead a hockey team or a startup, the pressure is the same:
Results without clarity.
Fatigue without rest.
Expectations without support.
Strategy without trust.
And so, I’m changing the name of this Substack from Balanced Man to Lead Beyond the Bench.
Because that’s the work I’ve been doing behind the scenes — with national team head coaches, GMs, and high-level business leaders.
Helping them evolve from tacticians into transformational leaders.
What Is “Leading Beyond the Bench”?
It’s a philosophy.
A framework.
A new standard for leadership.
Whether you’re on the bench or in the boardroom, you’ll learn to:
Reflect: Understand yourself and your impact.
Reset: Regulate your emotions and stay composed under pressure.
Rebuild: Create and uphold high-performance standards and culture.
Reinforce: Lead consistently through habits, systems, and accountability.
Rise: Lead with purpose, and leave a legacy that lasts.
So What Does This Mean for You?
If you subscribed for insights on balance, mindset, and purpose — you’re still in the right place.
This newsletter will still explore those themes.
But now through the lens of leadership.
In sport. In business. In life.
If you’re a coach, this will help you grow.
If you’re a leader, this will sharpen your edge.
If you’re both — you’ll feel right at home.
